Matt black with a deep wrinkle effect. The relief forms during curing and creates a texture no smooth powder can reproduce. TGIC-free polyester, highly resistant, matt finish that hides handling marks.

The signature finish of engines, frames and custom parts. 500 g bag, ready to spray. Application window 60 to 100 microns, cure 20 min at 180 °C.

      A finish nothing else reproduces

Shark Powder Coatings Black Wrinkle does more than colour a part, it gives it texture. The wrinkle forms during curing and creates a deep, irregular relief that no smooth powder or clear coat can imitate.

Matt black, strong feel, mechanical look. This is the finish of cylinder heads, engine covers, frames, brackets and every part that needs character. It also hides micro-scratches and handling marks far better than any gloss black.

Getting your wrinkle right: two parameters, no more

Let us be straight with you, this is our most demanding finish. The wrinkle is not a filler inside the powder. It forms during curing: the surface of the film hardens before the core, goes into tension, and creases. Without that difference there is no wrinkle. The powder flows out smooth and glossy.

Two conditions, both at the same time.

      1. Film thickness: 60 to 100 microns single coat. Aim for 80 to 100.
Below 60 microns the wrinkle does not form and you get smooth glossy black. Flat surfaces pick up far less powder than edges and recesses, so that is where you work harder, with two crossed passes. For deeper relief, a double coat takes you to 120 to 160 microns.

      2. A fast temperature rise.
The wrinkle needs thermal shock. Load into an oven that is already hot, never ramp up from cold with the part inside. One part at a time for large flat panels. A loaded oven or an open door slows the rise, the film cures evenly, and the wrinkle never forms.

      Curing: 20 minutes at 180 °C

The temperature shown is the part temperature once heated through, not the thermostat reading, which measures air. On a thick part or in a loaded oven the gap is significant, and that gap is what ruins cures.

⚠️ The tip that changes everything. Temperature indicating labels stuck on the part cost a few euros and tell you exactly what the part actually saw. On a wrinkle, it is the best money you can spend.

      Application notes

      • Surface preparation is mandatory. Free of grease, oil, scale and oxidation. Blast, then degrease with solvent. On old or porous parts, bake out for degassing before coating.
      • Epoxy primer for outdoor use. Not needed indoors. Outdoors or in corrosive environments, apply our Epoxy Primer first.
      • Purge your gun. A few percent of another powder left in the hose, injector or booth is enough to flatten the wrinkle. This product is highly sensitive to its composition.
      • Virgin powder only. No reclaimed overspray, for the same reason.
      • Corona or tribo gun, like any standard powder.

⚠️ No clear coat on top. It floods the relief and destroys the effect. Wrinkle stands on its own.

      Where it delivers

      • Engine covers, cylinder heads, casings
      • Frames, subframes, engine mounts, brackets
      • Motorcycle, motocross and off-road parts
      • 50cc custom parts, housings, accessories
      • Industrial parts, metal furniture, DIY projects

Anywhere a smooth surface would look ordinary. For professional shops and skilled DIY builders alike.

      Frequently asked questions

My part is glossy in places and textured elsewhere, why?
The glossy area is too thin, below 60 microns, so the wrinkle never formed. This is typical on large flat panels, which pick up less powder than edges. Recoat aiming for 80 to 100 microns. Second possible cause: too slow a temperature rise, from an oven that was not preheated or was overloaded.

How do I tell whether it is thickness or curing?
Acetone rub test. Rub 20 strokes with a soaked cloth, first on a glossy area, then on a textured one. If the film softens or blackens the cloth only on the glossy area, it is the cure. If it resists on both, the film is properly cured and the cause is thickness.

Can I clear coat over wrinkle to protect it?
No. The clear coat fills the relief and you lose the effect.

      Do I need a primer?
Indoors, no. Outdoors or in a corrosive environment, yes: our Epoxy Primer.

How much area does a 500 g bag cover?
Theoretical coverage is 9 to 13 m²/kg at 60 microns. At 90 microns, and once transfer losses are taken into account, expect significantly less. Order generously for a first job.

      Safety
